Steep and Cheap is the Linking the Week site for this week. I first become familiar with Steep and Cheap in January 2007 when a friend told me to check out the site. Operated by BackCountry.com , the premise of Steep and Cheap is quite easy. They offer discounted outdoor gear which is normally last seasons version or odd sizes/colors at reasonable prices. Of course the trick is that they only offer one item at a time, and when it is gone they move on to the next item. You don’t know what will be the next item, or how long the current item will be on sale. So really they are going for the impulse buy when you visit the site.
Steep and Cheap is quite popular and when I mention it to other people who enjoy the outdoors quite a few people know about it already. Usually before I pull the trigger on something (which hasn’t been too often) I check out the site SAC Attack . SAC Attack tells you some more details on the item available including how many are left as well as the number of times it has been offered. This lets you see the price if it has been offered before.
Keep in mind it is not about having the newest gear when you venture outdoors, but having the right gear. You never know what the conditions may bring while hiking, cycling, skiing, or anything else you may enjoy in the outdoors.
