August 1st marks Colorado Day as it was on this day in 1876 the State of Colorado was admitted to the union as the 38th state. When people think of Colorado the first thing to come to mind are the mountains and the many ski resorts. While Colorado has mountains as a primary feature in the landscape, there are also plains on the east side of the state which allows for many farms and ranches. On the western slope you will find ranches and farms as well, leading to a majority of the state being flat.
Another feature of the state is found at the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve . The following image is of the sand I encountered while visiting the dunes earlier this year, and showing another side of Colorado on this 132nd anniversary of Colorado’s admittance to the union.
