10 Favorite Images from 2022

December 31, 2022 By Neil

It is the end of the year and in doing so I am looking back at the images I took over the past twelve months and sharing my 10 favorite images from 2022. This year there is a lot of diversity in the work as I started back traveling. From Denver, Chicago, San Francisco, Copenhagen, Old Car City, Atlanta, Oslo, Svalbard and many more other locations there were many images which I liked from 2022. This made it a little more difficult to select my favorite 10 images, but the following does represent those images. These are images are posted in the order they were taken and not a representation ranking of the favorites.

Tivoli Brewing Company Building

Tivoli Brewing Denver Facade

Now serving as the Student Union for the Auraria Campus, the Tivoli Brewery Company building was originally built in 1882 and continued brewing until 1969. Since then the building sat vacant, was a movie theater and for the past ten is home for the a revived Tivoli Brewing Co. On a Sunday morning as I was walking around downtown I ventured to the Auraria Campus and noticed the soft light on the building. This allowed a straight on perspective of the building to be photographed showing the details of the building which is on the National Register of Historical Places.

Copenhagen Reflection

Copenhagen Reflection

As I was walking through Copenhagen, Denmark I found my way to Nyhavn. This is a popular place to grab a beverage by the locals and tourist but also to see the colorful buildings from the 17th and early 18th century. While exploring I started to look for different perspectives of the area and started pointing my camera to the canal and capturing the reflections. After a little while a boat slowly passed by my location which started to give some uneven motion in the water. This allowed a different reflection to be found when I was photographing and while capturing the color also provided some mystery to the scene.

A Piece of the Chain

A piece of the chain

Getting close to an object can provide more detail, but can also let the viewer wondering what else is part of the frame. While in the Faroe Islands. I came across this chain and decided to concentrate on one loop. Looking at the chain we know that it is part of something larger, but can only imagine what this larger piece of the scene consists. The hope is more so that the viewer is looking at the details of the chain after some rain moved through the area to see the details making up the larger scene.

Waves and the Beach

Faroe Island Breaking Waves

The use of a dock helps provides different perspectives when photographing waves along the beach. When I was in a small village in the Faroe Islands I was able to take advantage of this dock or pier. Being elevated over the water let me photograph down, but also close to the water itself. The longer shutter speed caught some motion, but not too much so there are still the sharp edges of the water being seen in the image.

Kansas City Federal Building

Kansas City Federal Building

This is the facade of the Richard Boiling Federal Building in Kansas City, Missouri. When photographing the texture of the facade by just itself you start to lose the fact this is a building. From a distance I noticed this building and ended up walking to the Government area of downtown. The light in the later part of the afternoon started to give some shadows in some areas but it was the repeating pattern and lines which drew me into photographing the building. The scale is also thrown off on this building as these are each line is not a floor on this eighteen story building. The aluminum, glass and granite building was completed in 1965.

Walrus in Svalbard

Walrus Playing in Svalbard

I spent 12 days on an expedition boat in Svalbard. On one of the days we headed out on the zodiacs to photograph some walrus which were sitting on the beach. The curiosity we had in the group of around 60 walrus was also mutual as when we got closer they started to swim out to check out the zodiacs as being in a remote portion of the world this was most likely a new experience to them as well. After a little bit these two walrus started to practice their fighting skills with each other over and over. It was quite fascinating to see how they behaved and I even put down the camera for a little while to also just experience the scene as well.

Colors of Svalbard

Colors of Svalbard

Moving the camera just a little can provide an interesting perspective on a scene. On a late afternoon in Svalbard I noticed a bit of green on some land and used camera movement to blend in the scene. The sky in the arctic can turn into an interesting color of yellow as seen in this image. While the sky and land blend into a smooth surface, the waves of the water give some hint of the location and let the viewer start to imagine the location and their own thought on the scene itself.

Flamingo in Chicago

Flamingo in Chicago

In the plaza of the Federal buildings in Chicago is the Flamingo sculpture by Alexander Calder. This was the first time in many years I walked past this location and on this occasion the orange of the sculpture and the black background caught my attention. Instead of photographing the full piece, I chose the just photograph portions of the piece with the buildings filling the whole background.

Edsel Hood

Hood of an Edsel

As I explored Old Car City in Georgia it was always an unknown of what you may find next in the acres and acres of cars. With the changing of seasons when I visited, this Edsel had a fresh covering of foliage from the trees which continue to grow near and through the cars on the land. The front of the car was visible which allowed me to capture the front of the car and flow back to the hood where the leaves had gathered from this season.

Old Bus Colors

Old Bus Colors

As an old bus sat in the elements at Old Car City the weather has started to show its impacts on the paint. The yellow of the bus is slowly getting stripped off and maybe even showing a different color it was painted before getting to the steel of the bus and rust. The mix of the colors grabbed my attention for some time as the weathering is uneven and allows for interesting shapes to be found.

Thank you for taking a look at my 10 favorite images from 2022. Do you have a favorite of the images? There were many others which were worthy of consideration and in 2023 I will share more of these as well as new pictures I take throughout the year.

Pricing Updates

December 4, 2022 By Neil

In the last few years, businesses of all sizes have been significantly impacted by increasing material and service costs and a lack of available skilled staffing. We have worked diligently to adapt, absorb, and avoid passing along these increases with our last price increases taking place over ten years ago.

However, due to continued increasing costs, many of our wall art prices will be increasing starting January 1st, 2023.

We have provided the price changes below for the most popular options effective at the start of the year. There are some categories which will not have a price change based on working to find other methods in manufacturing the products without compromising quality.

A price change is never easy for us to pass along and we have worked hard to continued to make wall art affordable. The current prices will remain in place through the end of the year for holiday shopping. Thank you for your business and continued support.
