Just like in any large city growth is inevitable. In Denver the past few years this is quite noticeable anywhere you look with new buildings sprouting up near Union Station and other locations. On this day as I was walking through lower downtown I looked up noticed the old and new elements of the buildings blending together. The new building is 1800 Larimer, also known as the Xcel Energy Building, while the old is the Denver City Cable Railway Company building. There are plenty more instances of this in the Denver area, it is just finding the right angle to see how they work together.

Day 14 of Thirty Days 2013 found me in Clear Creek Canyon with a friend who is familiar with the area from his many trips here for some fishing.  As we stopped at a parking area in the dark we climbed up higher to get a perspective over the road.  Highway 6 can be busy with traffic heading to the casinos and other mountain locations west of Golden.  However at times you can also find a lone car as in this image for today.

A nice sunny day in Colorado on Day 6 of Thirty Days 2013. Today I headed to Sloans Lake for some afternoon light. First stop was photographing the skyline across the lake with a steady breeze blowing. Prior to leaving the lake I checked out some other areas and found some tall grasses backlit blowing in the wind. Letting the sun wash out some of the scene I photographed these with a hint of the rocky mountains in the distance prior to the sun dropping behind the mountains to end another day in Denver.

Photographing and living in Denver has its benefits since I can visit the same areas over and over easily and watch them change.  On this visit to City Park I went to a familiar spot and zoomed into the city a little to capture the fresh grass of spring at the park on this spring day in Denver.

Happy New Year! It was a clear day today at sunrise in Denver (January 1, 2015). This image was taken two years on New Years Day.

From the Archives: New Years Day 2013
A new year has begun and yesterday morning I took the opportunity to photograph the first sunrise of 2013 in Denver. Heading to a familiar location I set up my camera and waited in the chilly conditions. I was watching the weather the past couple of days and saw the weather which brought a light dusting of snow on Monday morning would move on and clearing would start overnight. This was exactly the case as the sun lit up the clouds for a couple of minutes during the first sunrise for the year over the skyline of Denver.
